- MARK CARRELS

The Ndlambe Municipality is rallying support for the Springboks among the local community by opening up a big screen fan park to the public at the Port Alfred Hospital Fields on Saturday October 28.

The Boks, who are the defending champions, are playing their old foe the All Blacks, in the Rugby World Cup final in Paris, France.

Public access to the hospital fields, with no entry fee to be charged, will be from 6pm, ahead of the match set to be broadcast at 9pm.

Ndlambe Municipality communications officer TK Mtiki said: “In a show of unwavering support for our national rugby team, Ndlambe has been donning green and gold Springboks T-shirts every Friday. As the Springboks advanced to the final, our management felt it was the perfect moment to create an event that would bring our local residents together in unity and enthusiasm for the team.

“This event promises to be a remarkable occasion, serving as a catalyst to unite the community while providing a significant boost to the local economy,” he said.

“The positive response we’ve witnessed since announcing this event has been truly heartening. Our intention is not to generate revenue but to ensure every resident has the opportunity to witness the final match.”

Mtiki said the municipality had prioritised security.

“We have made comprehensive security arrangements, and will be deploying security guards on the field to guarantee the safety of all attendees.

While we won’t delve into the specifics for security reasons, please rest assured that we have stringent measures in place to ensure a secure environment.”

Springbok fans who are expected to converge on the grounds will be entertained before and after the match.

“We are excited to announce there will be music to keep our residents entertained throughout the event.

“There won’t be any special guests because, to us, every resident is special on this occasion. We aim to come together to rally behind our national rugby team. For those bringing children, we kindly ask that you keep them under strict supervision.

“Feel free to bring your own meat and drinks to enjoy a braai on the premises.”

Gates to the venue will open at 6pm, so fans are asked to arrive early to secure their braai spot.

“This event is a testament to our commitment to community building and supporting our national team. We look forward to seeing all our residents come together to celebrate this momentous occasion. Let us unite and cheer the Springboks to victory!

“We are proud to serve our community and to come together in support of national causes that bring us all closer as a united front,” Mtiki said.
