The Graeme College U15 sevens rugby team made their school proud by finishing second at Grey College’s National Sevens Championsh­ip Tournament in Bloemfonte­in last week.

The event featured winners from competitio­ns throughout the country.

On their way to the final, Graeme beat Grey College 19-17, lost to Helpmekaar High 22-15 and beat Kempton Park High 24-12 in the pool stages, while defeating Boland Agricultur­al High 20-17 in the semifinal.

Grey College became champions by beating Graeme 27-12 in the final.

The Graeme squad, coached by Michael Pretorius and Liyema Mafane, comprised Lidwala Maliti, Iviwe Mshubeki, Torres Fourie, Luniko Marivate, Busa Ngesimani, Asakhe Ranuga, Donelle Abdul, Luke Doyle, Erin Nelson, Masi Maboza, Lucritia Magau and Keathen Edwards.

HOSPICE AT BELMONT

A shotgun blast will mark the start of the Hospice golf day, sponsored by Makana Brick, at 1pm on Friday, November 3 over the Belmont course in Belmont Valley. The betterball stableford’s entry fee is R380 per player and entries can be emailed to info@thebelmont.co.za.

BUMPER MARKET

St Patrick’s Church at 47 Hill Street, adjacent to the public library, holds a “bumper market” from 9am to 1pm on Saturday, November 4. Stalls include white elephant, books, clothing, cakes, boerewors rolls and a tea garden.

ALBANY TRIO IN EP SIDES

Three members of Makhanda-based Albany Bowling Club have been selected for the EP ladies’ teams to take part in interdistr­icts bowls competitio­ns in 2024. Gwen Bartlett and Annemari Calitz have been included in the EP B team and Marlene Jacobs in the EP veterans’ team.

COUNTING CAPS

Anna Pinto and Amie Jenner of the Diocesan School for Girls (DSG) have achieved their 100 caps for the school’s first waterpolo team. They achieved this at the Clarendon High School for Girls’ Stayers tournament, Pinto against Merrifield College and Jenner against Woodridge College.

At the Kingswood College Senior School prize-giving last week, Taryn Hurly was awarded the Peter Booysen Trophy as the dux scholar for 2023. Hannah Tarr was awarded the Denzil Fincham Trophy as the junior school’s dux scholar for 2023.

ATHLETICS STARS

Due to rain interrupti­ons, the prize giving function of the Kingswood College senior schools’ athletics sports day was not held on the day itself but at a later stage. The trophy winners were: Taryn Hurly open victrix ludorum; Jared Wilson open victor ludorum; Megan Fletcher U16 victrix ludorum; Baelien Hubert U16 victor ludorum; Iminathi Rungqu U14 victrix ludorum; and Charl du Toit U14 victor ludorum.
