- TOTT REPORTER

The Port Alfred Country Club is getting ready to welcome the keen, the cool and the curious to their open day on Saturday November 18 from 10am to 2pm.

The secure, family friendly French Street multisport facility offers plenty of action, including running, walking, cricket, pigeon racing, sport shooting, Bridge and golf driving and chipping.

Coming soon, with two courts built to spec, is badminton. And in the works are a mountain bike trail, a running trail, volleyball, basketball, handball and indoor hockey.

The Port Alfred Country Club is already home to the Kowie Pigeon Racing Club, Kowie Striders running club, cricket, Port Alfred Sports Shooting Club, Stenden Sports and the Port Alfred Bridge Club. Joining them at the open day on November 18 will be Cycle Asylum, with their latest stock on show plus rides for kids, as well as IHire demonstrating their range of tools and equipment.

Sunshine Coast Tourism will be there to show off what Ndlambe and the Sunshine Coast have to offer.

There will be plenty of fun for the whole family, with a pigeon release as one of the highlights. Browse market stalls, enjoy food stalls and coffee. The bar will be open and there will be a jumping castle for the children. The Port Alfred Soup Kitchen will be selling boerewors rolls to raise funds for their work.

Most recently the Port Alfred Country Club has hosted the Kowie

Striders BUCO Pineapple Challenge, and the BUCO G2C cycle race from Makhanda to Port Alfred. It’s one of the venues for the Pineapple Cricket Tournament – usually held in March.

And many youngsters and their families have got to know the facility through school sport, and events such as the Glow Run and the Kowie Striders’ Boxing Day fun run.

But you don’t have to be sporty to enjoy the club’s facilities: the Port Alfred Country Club welcomes social members.

Members of the public are invited to come and see for themselves at the club’s open day on Saturday November 18. You can check out the recently renovated entertainment area, and visit each club at their stand to see what they offer and how you can be involved.

In next week’s edition of Talk of the Town, you’ll find a detailed map of the Port Alfred Country Club and all the facilities on offer, as well as details of each club’s activities and how to contact them.
