Home to Port Alfred’s biggest sports events
The next big event to be hosted at the Port Alfred Country Club will be the Port Alfred and Bathurst Districts Cricket Tournament, better known as the Pineapple Tournament. The 2024 edition from March 2-9, marks a momentous 120 years of the event.
Tournament president Dave Duncan says it will be bigger and better than ever before, with 24 teams competing on seven fields in the area, with each night’s prizegiving and the closing event held at the Port Alfred Country Club.
Duncan said: “The collaboration between the tournament and the Port Alfred Country Club has over many years led to this event becoming the single biggest sporting event in our district. It brings friends and families together year after year to rekindle old friendships and create new bonds.”
BUCO Pineapple Run and G2C cycle race
BUCO Port Alfred says it is committed to build communities and Port Alfred through supporting initiatives such as the revamping and restructuring of the Port Alfred Country Club, as well as sponsoring the Pineapple Run, organised by Kowie Striders, and the G2C mountain bike race, organised by Mountain Events.
They are also a major sponsor of the Kowie Toyota Pineapple Cricket Tournament.
“The G2C is quite a big thing for us,” said BUCO manager Gerhard van der Walt. This year, the Pineapple Run went hand-in-hand with the G2C over one (very rainy) weekend, with both races ending at the PA Country Club.
Van der Walt pledged the company’s full commitment to the future of the PA Country Club.
“Having sports events and that bring outsiders to see this beautiful town is definitely a plus.
“I’m 110% for it and we must support it. And the community must support it that is important,” Van der Walt said.
