Tales & Fables opens its doors in Port Alfred

The joy of reading is one of those things that should be a part of life: while we live in a modern technologi­cal world, there is nothing quite like the feel or smell of a book in your hands, turning the pages and discoverin­g creativity, thrills, terror, or laughter with characters who become a part of you.

Port Alfred welcomes Tales & Fables bookstore to the town: there, any book lover instantly knows they’re home.

The shelves are stacked with books of all genres with something for everyone.

The name might sound familiar to some as Tales & Fables has been an iconic bookstore in Johannesbu­rg for many years. Owner and manager Ursula van Eck has relocated to Port Alfred and brought with her a treasuretr­ove of literary wonders.

“I have been fortunate to learn my trade from some of SA’s legendary book dealers like Geoffrey Klass from Collectors Treasury and Irene Koch. The wonderful thing about is always more to explore, the”book Van industry and books is that there Eck said.

“It gives me great pleasure to assist people in finding the right book or discoverin­g new authors. Whether it’s looking for that Lesley Pearce you haven’t read, or maybe that book on the World Cup you saw somewhere, the right book waits for the right person.

“People today have a real need to switch off, to take a break from the digital world.

“Relaxing with a book remains one of the best ways to do just that. At a time when informatio­n has become disputable and sources unreliable, it is to books that we return for steady guidance.”

Tales & Fables sells and buys books, so if you happen to have books you no longer read and they’re of good quality then why not help them find a new home and new eyes.

The book store itself is a welcoming atmosphere where you can sit and relax, explore the shelves and find those pages that call to you.

“We plan to host events from book signings to puppet shows for the little ones.

“Tales & Fables will also be introducin­g a regular pensioners’ day when it will offer a discount to senior citizens,” Van Eck said.
