Not to disappoint, the KGB were greeted with the promise of another day of golf into a fresh easterly wind as 30 golfers reported to be drawn in two three-balls and six four-balls to contest an alliance stableford two-scores-tocount format with a bonus point available for a “sandy’, a par from a bunker.

The easterly wind duly delivered but scoring was understandably good, given the experience garnered over recent months, as John Abbot, Bob Shaw, Derick van Harmelen and Andy Stembridge pipped many on their heels to take first place on 87 points. The chasing pack saw four coveys all coming home with 86 points to share second.

A day of sharing saw Andy Barnes, Brian Shirley and Dave Curran tie with Rick Hill, John Ralph and Len Bohnen, both coveys on 78 (73+5) points, to give added warmth to the pride of Hamer & Sukkel standing intermittently yet proudly on their tables for prize-giving.

Ross Grainger, displaying his pedigree, converted the only birdie on a par three, the eighth, to secure the twoclub pool for his covey.

Derick van Harmelen and Peter Reed returned with individual 70 netts but player of the day award went to Matt Chadwick for his individual 69 nett.

A morning when wind would not be an issue saw 50 players into the draw, to tee off ahead of the corporate Buco Day, in two three-balls and 11 fourballs to contest an alliance stableford two-scores-to-count, with the normal bonus point available for a “sandy” ,a par from a bunker. At odds with normal order of play the course was set up in two loops of nine to fit in with the corporate field.

While the predicted warm temperatures did not arrive and the easterly wind only freshened in a moderate manner, it saw good scoring as Keith Buttemer, Mike Krige, Michael Collins and Bruce Carlyon outstripped the field to post a winning score of 94 points.

Trish Barwick, Russell Warren, Peter Sinclair and Eugene Erasmus were a worthy second on 91 points.

On a day of good scoring Keith Rugg, Heinz Czepluch and Fanie Smit found that 80 (75+5) points meant that they narrowly secured the Hamer & Sukkel at prize-giving, to the relief to other close contenders.

Paul Fryer, Brian Reid and Greg Thomas all birdied the par three 12th hole, normally the sixth, only to see Tony Halse birdie the par three ninth hole, normally the 13th, and capture the two-club pool for his covey.

Pat Halse, John Abbott, Zandile Jakavula and Paul Fryer were all delighted to record individual 70 netts; Mike Krige improved with an individual 68 nett; to see individual honours shared by Bruce Carlyon and Ian Storer, both returning with 67 netts.
