Tuesday November 28
An idyllic summer morning, with warm temperatures and hardly a breath of wind, saw 39 players enter an Alliance Stableford 2scores-to-count competition, with a bonus point available for a “sandy”, a par from a bunker, as they were drawn in one 3-ball and nine 4-balls.
Seemingly energised by solar power, Matt Chadwick, John Abbott, Dave Curran and Keith Buttemer leapt to the front of the field, not to be caught, as they posted 98 points in first place.
Neil Loundar, John Crandon, Ross Grainger and Derek Cooper also played well, earning second place for their 94 points.
Not enjoying one anothers’ warmth and unable to dovetail to any effect, Mark Warren, Andy Stembridge, Derick van Harmelen and Zandile Jakavula secured the Hamer & Sukkel for the day with 81 points. Tony Halse birdied the par three 8th hole, while Len Bohnen, Peter Reed, Dave Curran and Ian Palmer all birdied the par three 11th hole.
The 2-club pool carried over as all the birdies on the 11th were by players in different coveys.
A day with many taking full advantage of the weather conditions saw John Abbott, Don Thamson, Steve Kennedy and Ian Palmer all shooting individual 70 netts.
Rick Hill, John Crandon and Hein Barnard all shot individual 69 netts
Mark Warren and Jimmy van Rensburg both shot individual 68 netts.
Derek Cooper shot an excellent individual 66 nett, and thus clearing the way for Dave Curran for the best individual nett of the day of 64.
Closing highlights included Ian Palmer with his individual 69 gross, resulting in his 70 nett, and Derek Cooper with his individual 77 gross where he was under his age by a distance.
Friday December 1
A good field of 57 players were drawn in three 3-balls and twelve 4-balls to contest an Alliance Stableford 2-scores-to-count format, with bonus points available for “sandy’s”, a par from a bunker.
The excellent turnout was probably due to the annual KGB awards ceremony and Christmas lunch following the golf and an element of fun was introduced as all competing played off the forward red tees.
A fresh easterly wind proved no hindrance to Neil Loundar, Therese Loundar, Dave Curran and John Abbot as they finished in clear first on 93 points.
In their rear view mirror Andy Barnes, Andy Stembridge, Paul Fryer and Keith Rugg were second on 89 points.
Afflicted by injury Bob Shaw, Derick van Harmelen, Mike Stadler and Greg Thomas limped in on 73 points to claim the Hamer & Sukkel for the day.
Keith Rugg, Steve Kennedy and Daan Slabbert all birdied the par three 8th hole, as Zandile Jakavula, with his birdie on the par three 6th hole, took the carry over 2-club pool for his covey.
Keith Rugg and Fanie Smit shot individual 70 netts.
Andy Barnes and Jimmy van Rensburg shot individual 69 netts. while
And Maureen McGarvie, with an individual 67 nett, was player of the day.
