Fixing these issues could provide needed work

- Letters to PO Box 2871, Port Alfred or e-mail to

Attending to two issues could definitely employ many hands, provided some supervision is around.

Firstly, the stormwater drains need to have all the weeds and so on removed.

The worst being the one on Freshwater Road where the road and bridge were washed away in 2012.

I did notice that on December 4 there was a team cutting the grass on the road verges but no attention was being given to the real problem of clearing the undergrowth under the bridge.

Secondly, the pier has more potholes than the rest of PA.

The railings need to be sorted out, it is a danger to anyone on the pier.

It would be great to have a decent light (mini lighthouse) rebuilt instead of just a pole with a light on top, and 2012 gets the blame for this as well.

Not sure what our environment levy that we pay each month is actually used for?

Maybe someone could enlighten us to where these funds are allocated? I would like also to know the details of whom I should contact to explain my concern?

Ken Alberts Ndlambe Municipality responds:

We welcome interaction with residents and other stakeholders in the Ndlambe municipal area.

Please contact us on 046-604-5500 and ask for customer care services officer

Georgina Nkombisa, who will refer your query to the right official.

Additional suggestion from the editor: Several of the residents’ and ratepayers’ organisations in Ndlambe, including the Port Alfred Ratepayers and Residents Association (Parra) have established channels of communication and collaboration with municipal structures and officials.

This has often resulted in successful joint initiatives to resolve or mitigate service delivery and/or infrastructure concerns.

In next week’s edition (December 21), Parra and similar groups in other towns in the area explain their varying approaches to civic issues, and their plans for 2024.
