Achievements for ‘23 and goals for ‘24
Project Matrix helps highlight most crucial delivery areas
Kleinemonde Ratepayers and Residents Association’s
goals: To keep our village as neat and tidy as possible by seeing to ongoing maintenance issues.
To secure a reliable source of good quality water, and not be reliant on Eskom. We presently receive all our water from a single borehole that is a good quality but requires electricity.
To maintain a good working relationship with Ndlambe.
Main achievements in 2023
We have a process known as the Project Matrix: members of our committee meet Ndlambe staff on the first Wednesday of every month and discuss what needs to be done. A timeline is decided on and the item is allocated to a staff member.
We have also implemented a monthly maintenance rotation programme which includes cutting of verges, bush cutting, weed removal from roads, pothole filling and clearing bush around fire hydrants.
This forum has allowed the Ndlambe staff to prioritise projects, and when focusing on one area at a time, the results have been more visible.
Many projects have been completed, with others in progress or awaiting finance.
Boxes with fire extinguishers have been put up throughout Kleinemonde, and our fire truck has been refurbished. This will buy us some time while waiting for the fire department to arrive.
Difficulties and challenges
There are always budget constraints and broken equipment, resulting in much downtime and travelling back and forth to Port Alfred for parts.
Our water pipes are old, and we experience frequent water leaks, which take many hours to repair and waste a lot of water.
Dune rehabilitation around the Island parking area and ablutions continues but the sand has again built up and the ablutions continue to be nonfunctional and an eyesore.
Hopes and plans for 2024
To continue with the Project Matrix and systematically work through maintenance issues.
To continue working towards a reliable water supply that is independent of load-shedding.
Completion of the dune rehabilitation and restoration of the ablutions.
EIA to be completed at East Kleinemonde with the aim to build permanent ablutions for the many visitors to our area.
We are blessed to live in such a beautiful area, and our hope is to keep it unspoiled and our residents safe.
