Merry Christmas to all and a happy New Year.

KENTON GOLFING BROTHERHOOD

15

— Paul Fryer The KGB, Kenton Golfing Brotherhood, was pleased to see the number of rounds played pick up, particularly in the latter half of 2023, to see us move back toward pre-Covid levels where an average of 76 rounds per week was the norm. The return of our “swallows ”— the overseas contingent — and new settlers in the region as well as the visitors have contributed to the improvement in rounds played. We are pleased to say please come back again as we all have enjoyed the fellowship.

We look forward to continued growth in 2024.

We welcome old players and visitors into our midst to enjoy the on and off course camaraderie that the KGB espouses. A blessed Christmas and prosperous 2024 to all.

MASIBAMBISANE BOXING ACADEMY — director, Monwabisi Hans

We’d like to wish everyone in Port Alfred and surrounding areas a happy Christmas and a lovely New Year. Congratulations to all pupils, especially matriculants, who have done well and a special message to those who may not have passed, that all is not lost — there is still an opportunity to improve results next year. We thank Ndlambe Municipality for assisting us on the development side, especially Mr Ncapayi. We have been successful in producing four pro boxers — and we are looking forward to some of the youth going up to the elite division in February.

With the cadets, we managed to achieve second place in Somerset East. Our goal next year is to attract more sponsorship and donations to the academy. We thank all our sponsors from the bottom of our hearts with their assistance in our mission to “build better kids one punch at a time”. We have now 33 youth under our wing and we give thanks to the parents of children for believing in us and allowing them to box at our academy. And thank you to Talk of the Town for being there for us — you are an inspiration to us and it means a lot to us.

KOWIE BOARDRIDERS – chair Mickey Wittuhn

The Kowie Boardriders Surf Club has had a fun-filled busy 2023. The club has grown from a handful of paid up members to a fantastic 70, which is a super boost for moral support and positive vibes.

The executive committee held meetings to discuss the way forward and to plan the contest dates, weekends away and we were fortunate to gain two main sponsors in MIX and Buco. We are extremely grateful for this. The rough seas and extraordinary high tides did*

major damage to the coastline and Port Alfred did not come away unscathed. Kelly’s Beach has been restored and is looking great. East Beach is also looking great and we are keeping fingers crossed that the ablutions there are maintained, especially during the festive season.

I do urge all holiday makers and tourists to take extreme

caution when swimming at West Beach, it is dangerous.

Our KBC club is also active with environmental issues and I urge all users to leave the beach in a better state than when they arrived.

The consumption of alcohol is banned in public and this includes car parks and the beach.

Clean up afterwards and leave only your footprints behind.

To all beach users, enjoy our fantastic beaches, the Sunshine hospitality, the restaurants and have fun. Make this festive season memorable and come back again and invest in our beautiful coastal town.

STATION HILL CRICKET CLUB Andy Jones, chair

So far this season, we have managed to play three games winning two and losing one.

We are the log leaders and we hope to continue with good performances as our wish is to win the league this season.

To our sponsors Derek Martin of Trevpar World, Buco Main Street and Kekkel en Kraai Port Alfred thanks you very much for your support.

To our club members, please enjoy the time away from the cricket field and stay safe at all times.

We welcome new members who may want to join our club.

I wish all our sponsors, players, management, and fans a happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.

PORT ALFRED — chair, Joanne van Rensburg

As we bid farewell to 2023, we are thrilled to celebrate the incredible milestones and successes achieved by the Port Alfred Tennis Club throughout this remarkable year.

One of our proudest achievements has been witnessing the remarkable surge in our membership. Your enthusiasm and passion for tennis have been the driving force behind our thriving community, making our club a vibrant and welcoming place for all. We are immensely proud to share the triumphs of our local district league, where our dedication and teamwork propelled us to remarkable successes.

The Corporate Cup was a resounding triumph, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the invaluable support of our esteemed sponsors. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Pam Golding Properties Port Alfred, The Royal Alfred Marina, BS Sports, Leach Pharmacy, Kowie Build It, Edge Financial Group, Buco, and Stenden University for their unwavering support. The Royal St Andrews Hotel Amanzi Challenge Cup experienced an astounding doubling in entries.

A special thank you to the Royal St Andrews Hotel for their generous sponsorship, making this tournament a grand success.

Looking ahead to 2024, we are excited to embark on new endeavours. Our focus will be on enhancing our facilities by revamping our tennis courts and creating a safer environment by clearing the surrounding bush.

As we step into the new year, let us carry forward the spirit of camaraderie, dedication, and sportsmanship that defines our club.

Together, we will continue to strive for excellence, create lasting memories, and foster a love for tennis that unites us all.

Wishing you all a joyful festive season filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished moments with loved ones. May the New Year be filled with continued success both on and off the courts.
