Ndlambe matrics celebrate success thanks to joint efforts

EL Shaddai, Port Alfred High, Kuyasa and Ukhanyo top results

Amassive coordinate­d effort between teachers, parents, government department­s and, of course, the many hardworkin­g pupils was behind the success of Ndllambe’s Grade 12s of 2023.

Extra classes and holiday camps were just some of the interventi­ons that saw five of the eight public schools writing the National Senior Certificat­e (NSC) achieve pass rates above 80%.

Top of the class in the 2023 NSC exams in the Ndlambe municipal area was private school El Shaddai Christian Academy, whose 19 matrics celebrated a 100% pass rate.

Close behind, Port Alfred High School’s class of 2023, with 69 pupils writing, achieved a pass rate of 99%.

Following its record-setting 100% pass rate last year, Kuyasa Combined School’s 87 matric pupils achieved a strong 95% pass rate.

Alexandria’s Ukhanyo Secondary School continued its steady improvemen­t, achieving a 91% pass rate among its 46 matric pupils; Nompucuko Combined School, in Marselle, achieved an 88% pass rate among its 42 pupils, and IkhamvaLes­izwe Combined School in Ekuphumlen­i, Kenton, were pleased with the 87% achievemen­t by its 54 pupils.

Velile Secondary School in Bathurst achieved a 74% pass rate (54 pupils); Nomzamo Secondary in Port Alfred 67% (106); and Alexandria High 53% (43).

The Eastern Cape celebrated a pass rate of 81.4%, up from 77.3% last year, while nationally, it increased to 82.9%, from 80.1% last year.

Nationally, a total of 897,775 pupils registered to sit for the NSC exams.

Talk of the Town visited some of the schools on Friday January 19, when the matric results for 2023 were released.

Some of the schools held special assemblies ahead of handing out the results to their pupils.
