- SIBULELE MTONGANA

“Three years in a row, we have produced top achievers in the Sarah Baartman district. I am over the moon,” Kuyasa Combined School principal Xolani Mayana said on Friday January 19, after the release of matric class of 2023 results.

Sinovuyo Nkoso obtained four distinctions in isiXhosa home language, mathematics literacy, accounting and business studies.

Zenande Nhanha obtained five distinctions in isiXhosa home language, life orientation, accounting, business studies and economics.

“The team collaboration among staff members is great that is how we achieved what we have,” Mayana said.

“We had a strategy where teachers would mentor two or three children pupils, targeting their weakness and working together with parents to ensure the pupils do the best of their ability, alongside extra classes and study camps throughout the year to ensure a good pass rate,” Mayana said.

“Keeping faith, praying and constant motivation really pushed the pupils to pass,” Mayana said.

Vice principal Sylvain Yankwa wanted to touch a little on the breakthrough the science department has had. Three years ago, a programme was put in place to ensure pupils perform to their optimum. The class of 2023 has achieved a 100% pass rate in mathematics and life sciences and 90.1% in physical science.

Kuyasa Combined School, obtained a 100% pass rate for the class of 2022 and a 95.4% for 2023 which the principal says is their average rate. The class of 2023 Kuyasa Combined School had a total of 87 pupils, all pupils wrote their final exams, 42 obtained a bachelor pass, 26 a diploma pass and 15 a higher certificate.

Four pupils will be given the opportunity to rewrite their matric.

Mayana wishes to appeal to the community of Ndlambe to not give up on the pupils whether they are doing good or bad in school, keep encouraging them.

“God has the power to redirect students and their future,” Mayana said. “Lastly I would like to invite businesses to help financially so we can have the necessary tools to ensure our pupils can place at a national level and carry out the mandate of being the school of excellence” Mayana said.
