Collective voice for community
Port Alfred Ratepayers’ & Residents’ Association (PARRA) is the officially mandated representative body of the residents living, working and owning property in Port Alfred, Station Hill, Thorn Hill and Nemato.
We serve as the collective voice for our community and its interests to Ndlambe Municipality. It is important to note that we are a separate legal entity and have no political party affiliation whatsoever. Our only interest is in acting in the best interests of our constituents.
Over the past few months, many may have seen our community revitalisation projects, alongside our partners and Ndlambe Municipality but this is only a small part of what we do. Our role and commitments include:
Oversight and input in the annual Ndlambe municipal budget. We strive to keep the annual increases in the budget below the inflation rate
Monitoring, oversight and input into the property valuation roll.
Interaction with various municipal directors and officials concerning municipal matters.
Interaction and engagement with the municipal manager.
Representation on various project steering committees such as the RO plants and sewerage projects.
Engagement regarding town planning issues, including rezoning and applications for building departures.
Involvement and engagement for liquor license applications. By-law related issues. Representation on the ward committees.
Working with Sunshine Coast Tourism, PA Business Forum and other bodies affecting our members interests
Engagement with civic groups who investigate innovative solutions to the issues our community faces.
Escalating ratepayer issues to the municipality.
Over the past two years we have rebranded and revitalised our organisation. We have:
Created a new website and digital footprint.
Developed a “corporate identity”.
Launched a mailing list for newsletters and feedback.
Created a new Facebook page and grown our following.
Worked closely and strengthened the working relationship with our municipality.
Grown our partnerships with Sunshine Coast Tourism and the PA Business Forum.
Secured regular meetings and updates with certain departments at Ndlambe Local Municipality.
Served on various sub-committees. Assisted with upgrades to areas & projects around town.
This is just the start and we will continue to grow from strength to strength. Our mission is to help build a better Port Alfred for our community.
We can however only achieve many of our goals with your support.
Our annual membership fees are R300 per family or R250 for pensioners and ward 9 residents, and we also have options for body corporates and businesses wanting to support us.
These fees run from January 1 to December 31 each year.
