Tips for growing your business

- Info@spinningreel.co.za

Sunshine Coast Tourism and the Port Alfred Business Forum have introduced a new series with tips to help you with your business, together with valuable insights from our members to inspire you.

This week’s entrepreneurship tip comes from Kim Gardner, Spinning Reel Family Beach Cottages, Port Alfred.

Hands-on approach and round-theclock availability:

Nestled in the tranquil coastal town of Port Alfred, The Spinning Reel Family Beach Cottages epitomise a legacy of hospitality and charm.

Since the Gardner family’s acquisition of the 10ha property in 1969, it has flourished into a beloved retreat under the dedicated care of (now late) son Steve, and his wife Kim , who assumed operations in 1991. The property features a Vermont-style chalet and two exquisite bed-and-breakfast rooms, each boasting private entrances and wellappointed amenities.

Steve’s craftsmanship shines through in the meticulously crafted Canadian-style log chalets he personally constructed. Over time, seven additional beach cottages have been added, all offering breathtaking sea views amid the natural dune bush, with private beach access for all guests.

The allure extends beyond accommodation, with facilities including a kiddies’ pool nestled among the rocks and a tennis court for leisurely recreation.

Kim attributes the enduring success of The Spinning Reel to a hands-on approach and round-the-clock availability, ensuring guests feel like cherished family members.

The festive season of 2023 witnessed a happy influx of returning holidaymakers, testament to the enduring appeal of this coastal haven.
