KGB January 30

Paul Fryer, Zandile Jakavula and John Abbott all birdied the par three 6th; only to submit to Ross Grainger with his birdie on the par three 13th as he captured the carryover 2club pool for his covey.

Once more, good individual scoring was predominant as Paul Fryer, Andy Barnes, John Abbott and Mark Warren all came home with 69 netts; Peter Reed improved with his 68 nett; Lawrence Schultz upped the ante with his 67 nett; John Dell enjoyed himself even further with his 65 nett; as Steve Kennedy was conspicuous as leader of his team with his player of the day return of 64 nett.

February 2

A switch of wind direction from earlier in the week saw a fresh easterly test players as 49 entrants into the draw contested an Alliance Stableford 2-scores-to-count competition in three 3-balls and ten 4-balls with a bonus point available for a “sandy”.

Scores were relatively closer than recent KGB competitions as Peter Reed, Steve Kennedy, Michael Collins and Andy Stembridge finished in first place on 91 points, edging ahead of Tony Halse, Pat Halse, Dave Kirk and Jimmy van Rensburg in second place on 90 points.

Several competing coveys were relieved at prize-giving after a tense wait to see Andy Manson, Mike Krige, Pete Andrew and Maureen McGarvie make a late run and capture the Hamer & Sukkel on 80 points.

Derek Sinclair and Berny Loggenberg both birdied the par three 8th hole: Nick Oosthuizen and Zandile Jakavula both birdied the par three 6th hole; to the joy of the field Nick and Zandile were in separate coveys and the 2-club pool carried over.

Michael Collins and Greg Thomas shot individual 70 netts; John Abbot, Lindy Krige, Dave Kirk and Keith Rugg all shot fine 69 netts; as player of the day was Nick Oosthuizen with his 68 nett.
