Talk of the Town

The carnival is coming to town

- TOTT REPORTER

The fun doesn’t stop in Ndlambe this autumn, with a series of vibrant events lined up for the next few weeks. First up (and well under way!) is the Pineapple Cricket Tournament; then, from March 2224, the Bathurst Agricultural Show while that same weekend, the Kenton Wine Festival will be swinging. The Port Alfred Easter Festival follows (March 28 to April 1). Just as you find yourself wondering what to do, along comes the Sunshine Life Centre and EXP Realty’s The Sunshine Carnival, coming to Port Alfred.

The Sunshine Carnival on April 12 and 13 brings to the party two days of non-stop fun, featuring thrilling rides, vibrant market stalls, captivating street performances, live entertainment on stage, fascinating exhibitions, and engaging team activities.

The funfair rides are provided by Fun4U. From adrenaline-pumping experiences like the Quasar, Jedi 360 and Disco Dance, to the enchanting views from the Ferris Wheel, there's something for everyone, including a variety of children’s rides. With a total of 12 rides on offer from 10am to 10pm, it’s all-day excitement.

Discover treasures at the market stalls: there will be 45 of them offering local arts, crafts, clothing, delicious foods, sweets, and more. All the food stalls will be operated by local charities supporting community development initiatives.

While you browse and buy, be entertained by an array of sideshows and street performers, including fire dancers, mimes, musicians, and puppeteers. Don’t miss the classic car exhibition or the chance to connect with Midway motorcyclists at their showcase.

Gather your friends and family for a variety of engaging team activities organised by the Round Table. Throughout the day, enjoy live music from DJs, belly dancing performances, and the talented winners of last year’s Nemato youth talent show. As the sun sets, unwind in the picnic area near the stage while enjoying live performances by local artists, while the children kids stay in view, bouncing around on the jumping castles nearby.

Discover the Sunshine Life Centre located at the historic railway station on Pascoe Crescent. Open every weekday from 9am to 2pm, the centre provides vital services including referrals, psychosocial support, computer training, access to a tech hub with free Wi-Fi and online courses, work readiness and enterprise development training, support groups, mentorship, skills development, and a gift depot offering food, clothing, and bedding relief.

Additionally, the centre serves as a development hub fostering collaboration between local organisations to optimise aid delivery in our community.

The Sunshine Carnival takes places on April 12 and 13 from 10am to 10pm on the Hospital Cricket Field.

Entry for anyone 15 and over is R30; ages three to 14 pay R10 (adult supervision required) and underthrees are free.
