Update on Water Issues

- A found poem from Makana Municipality Jeannie Wallace McKeown Published in the Sol Plaatje European Union Poetry Anthology XII.

Residents are requested to consume water sparingly. Immediate replacement of the pump is impossible,

Considering the manufacturing time lag of eight weeks.

It is anticipated that the situation will normalise thereafter.

The two new pumps have new digital specifications,

Not compatible with existing programming at the pump station.

Allow time for the water to reach the high-level reservoirs. Tomorrow we will alternate supply.

Subsequent to yesterday ’ s tripping of the new pump,

The valves could not be opened this morning.

Water will only be supplied to the CBD and low lying areas. Certain areas will experience water shortages due to low levels.

No laundry is allowed at any of the campus residences.

All residence students will be provided with basins,

To be used for the collection of shower water.

Grey water must be used for the flushing of toilets.

One (old) pump is still working. All areas will have normal water supply until 8pm.

The above is only possible when none of the risk factors, Such as a major pipe burst, loadshedding,

Or a major breakdown in pumps occurs.

Reservoir levels are such that supplying water

Is going to become problematic, until there is sufficient rainfall. There is a burst pipe on the mainline. No water tomorrow,

And water will return on Wednesday and Thursday. Unfortunately, due to the bad quality of our raw water,

We are only operating at 50% capacity now.

The transfer is impossible, as the plant is not operational.

We find ourselves in a worse situation than last year. The raw water quality became muddy,

Due to the refilling of Glen

Melville Dam.

The intermediate reservoirs are almost dry.

Apply the 25 litre per person per day principle,

(To a maximum of 4 people in a household).

We would like to apologise profusely about these eventualities.

Your continued tolerance and understanding is always appreciated.

We humbly apologise for the inconvenience caused by these circumstances. Residents must still save water.
