Successful catches despite wind

Eight fish species collected in gale force weather conditions

- TOTT CONTRIBUTOR

The eighth round of the Pick n Pay Claude Pittaway Round Robin took place on March 16 at Riet River. As predicted, the wind was pumping gale force but luckily the water was not too cold but still produced a minimum amount of fish, with only eight different species of fish been caught, totalling 37 fish with a weight of 42.58kg.

Attendance was better than average, even though the wind blew anglers off the beach early which made the beverages go down better at the prize-giving as it was an earlier start.

All our competitions are catch and release, so this way we further the stock of fish for the future.

The evening’s prize-giving handled by chair Gary du Randt went off without a hitch.

Fires were going, salads were made and everyone burnt a little meat and had a great time.

Thanks to Deon and Irene Marais for the lovely salads as always.

The following were the achievements of the anglers: Biggest in the species were as follows:

Dusky cob — Faan de Klerk, 5.35kg; bronze bream — Lawrence Kemsley, 1.39kg; blacktail — Brendan Marais, 0.88kg; white steenbras — Mark Coetzee, 2.45kg; black musselcracker — Lawrence Kemsley 0.82kg; white musselcracker — Quinton Fick 3.01kg; galjoen — Chris Pike 1.77kg; feltail barbel —
