KOSRA makes membership free but needs donations to fix infrastructure
The Kenton on Sea Ratepayers Association (KOSRA) has changed its approach to representing the Kenton ratepayers by having free membership to all while, at the same time, expanding their functions to actively assist in areas where critical services are not being provided by local municipality, and to seek donations from the residents to fund chosen projects.
KOSRA’s areas of focus for 2024:
Security
Ratepayers donations are used to expand and sustain security cameras and related operations, as well as to hire additional security guards and locate them strategically during peak seasons.
General town maintenance
KOSRA uses donations to pay for grass cutting and maintenance of walkways and other public areas. This extends to cutting back bushes and trees that are encroaching onto the roads.
Road maintenance
With the guidance and assistance of our road engineer, Arthur Taute, KOSRA has conducted a survey of the roads in Kenton and established a programme of works to extend the lives of roads in reasonable condition by undertaking work that is appropriate for the maintenance and rehabilitation of the poorly neglected roads.
A separate report has been circulated which can be accessed on the KOSRA web page, www.kentonratepayers.co.za.
The work is preceded by cleaning out stormwater drains and removing encroaching vegetation and grass.
Once this work has been completed further work will proceed for the whole town.
Kosra has contributed to the repair of Bathurst, Retief and Rothesay roads. The total spend on roads from September last year to date:
Ndlambe: R748,000 Kosra: R300,000
Private owners: R1m.
It is estimated that KOSRA require funding of roughly R3m per annum to bring the whole road network back into an easily maintainable condition. Donations are urgently needed.
Water reticulation
While KOSRA is acutely aware of the lack of water supply in Kenton and is involved in seeking solutions, they have committed an initial amount to improve the water reticulation network by extending the Ndlambe valve replacement project to include additional valves.
These valves have been identified as being critical to enable water shut off in 7 separate zones throughout Kenton.
Once this work has been completed, KOSRA want to further improve the operational efficiency of the network by encouraging Ndlambe to ensure that their bulk meters are functional as well as re-installing electronic recording devices which have been vandalised.
KOSRA has an ambitious programme to improve Kenton. To make a donation please visit
