KGB Tuesday March 19

The wind lulled and the sun shone as 43 players reported to be drawn in one 3-ball and ten 4-balls to contest an Alliance Stableford 2scores-to-count format with a bonus point available for a “sandy ” , a par from a bunker.

The westerly wind made an effort to appear but golfing conditions were sublime as Mark Warren, Tom Tagg, Matt Chadwick and Jan Immelman finished first on 90 points a nose ahead of Bob Shaw, Mike Stadler, John Muggeridge and James Weisters in second on 89 points.

Possibly with the feel of flotsam bobbing home Peter Reed, Nick Oosthuizen, Andy Stembridge and Paul Fryer left no doubt as to the owners of the Hamer & Sukkel at prize-giving with their rather sorry return of 78 points.

Tom Tagg, Donny Rose and Zandile Jakavula all birdied the par three 11th but with visitor Donny Rose also succeeding with a birdie on the par three 13th, he secured the carryover 2-club pool for his team.

Keith Rugg, John Abbott, David Groenewald and Tony Halse all shot individual 70 netts; John Muggeridge and Heinz Czepluch, extending his run of good form, shot individual 68 netts; as Mark Warren was player of the day with a fine individual 67 nett. Ricky Barresi, with his individual 78 gross, concluded the accolades.

Friday March 22

The KGB field of 46 players drawn in two 3-balls and ten 4-balls all jointly entered the SPCA Annual Golf Day to compete in an Alliance Stableford 2-scores-tocount format.

The easterly wind freshened to test the majority of the field but Nick Oosthuizen, Ricky Barresi, Yvonne Hill and Peter Longhurst kept themselves in control and were composed as they posted 92 points to run out winners.

Dave Kirk, Launa Kirk, Tom Tagg and John Muggeridge were a comfortable second place on 88 points.

The first covey home, a 3-ball, comprising Mark Warren, Greg Thomas and Wayne Harris evidently found a headwind against them on most of the holes played as their 76 (71+5) points earned the honour of the Hamer & Sukkel residing on their table at prize-giving.

Tony Halse and Andries Pienaar both birdied the par three 13th, only to see Peter Longhurst birdie the par three 8th and Ricky Barresi birdie the par three 11th.

Peter and Ricky, playing in the same covey, took the 2-club pool to see all spoils on offer on the day go to their covey.

Peter Longhurst and Bob Shaw both confirmed their golfing prowess as they returned with individual 69 netts. Ricky Barresi, consistent as ever, came home with a fine individual 72 gross.

To conclude prize-giving, the proceeds of the KGB fines session was donated to the SPCA, as has become tradition.
