Annual golf day for a really good cause

-

The SPCA golf day was held this past weekend on Friday March 22, at the Royal Port Alfred Golf Club (RPAGC) and the day saw a good turnout in support of what is an annual fundraising event for the local SPCA.

There were 88 players on the day and much fun was had by all involved. The administrator of the Port Alfred and Ndlambe District SPCA, Forbes Coutts, was present at the prize-giving to present the prizes.

“This is a big event for us every year and we rely on the funds that come in. Thank you to Royal Port Alfred Golf Club for hosting the event and thank you to the management and committee,” Coutts said.

A special thank you was given to Wendy Bradfield of the RPAGC fundraising committee for her sterling efforts.

Winning team members, Rick Pryce, Russell and Kirsten Dales and Antony de Bruin, collected their prizes and were presented with the Debbie Longhurst SPCA Golf Trophy.

The winning team came in first with 96 points.

“The money goes to all the dogs and cats at the SPCA who are all looking for homes and this will help us to keep going and to keep feeding them until they find their new homes,” Coutts said.

After the prize-giving, a raffle and auction was held, which was brilliantly presented by auctioneer Peter Charter, who got the crowd going. “The purpose here is to collect funds for SPCA, so open your hearts and let’s help get some money for them,” Charter said.

Items on auction included a cordless drill, a carpet donated by Top Carpets and Floors, and trips and stays at Horns Up, Shamwari and Amakhala Game Reserve.

Money raised from the golf day will greatly assist the SPCA in continuing their work and care for the animals.
