Following overnight showers, the suggestion of better conditions in the morning saw 38 players drawn in two three-balls and eight fourballs to contest an alliance stableford two-scores-to-count with an added bonus point for a “sandy”, a par from a bunker.

The westerly wind held off intensity till later in the morning as John Abbot, Hein Barnard, Rick Hill and Paul Fryer came home on 89 points to tie with John Muggeridge, Len Bohnen, Zandile Jakavula and Peter Longhurst on the same score for joint first place.

The Hamer & Sukkel resided on the table of the first three-ball home for an extended period until they were rescued by Bob Shaw, Wayne Harris, David Simpson and James Weisters, as they crept in late with 73 points to take ownership of the trophy at prize giving.

James Lobban and Peter Longhurst both birdied the par three eighth but Nick Oosthuizen with his birdie on the par three sixth ensured the carry over twoclub pool went to his covey. Overall scoring was good as Hein Barnard, Ross Grainger, Derick van Harmelen and Andy Barnes all returned individual 70 netts.

Friday April 5

Rain overnight and drizzle at dawn meant only 23 players were deemed foolhardy enough to arrive and be drawn in one threeball and five four-balls to contest an alliance stableford two-scoresto-count, with a bonus point available for a “sandy” from a bunker.

Late notice that Hospice were having their annual fund raising golf day in a betterball stableford format was a surprise to many but the entire KGB field joined to support the cause.

In addition, KGB fines at conclusion of proceedings were donated to Hospice.

Initially the westerly wind challenged and overhead was grey and damp but conditions improved as Nick Oosthuizen, Bruce Carlyon, Lindy Krige and Mike Krige came home with a sound 90 points to claim first place. Andrew White, Donny Rose, Jimmy van Rensburg and Paul Fryer were pleased to find that their 88 points earned a second spot.

Not enjoying themselves quite as much but able to bond around the Hamer & Sukkel at prize giving were Mark Warren, Heinz Czepluch, John Dell and Lawrence Schultz for their return of 76 points.

No birdies were recorded on the par threes and the two-club pool carried over.

The only individual player to receive accolades at prize giving was Donny Rose for his fine 69 nett.
