Kenton-based organisation Coastal Kindness is hosting a grief counselling course which will take place every Friday over the next six weeks.

The organisation, which aims to support health care in the area, explains why grief counselling is important.

“After the loss of a loved one, persistent negative emotions can disrupt our daily lives. The aim of grief counselling is to help you integrate the feelings of loss into your life, learn how to manage distress and support you as you adapt to life without your loved one,” Coastal Kindness explains.

The course consists of six two-hour sessions and is designed to guide participants as they heal and rebuild their lives around the loss they have suffered. The organisers have set limits of a minimum of four and maximum of 10 participants, who need to bring a pen and notepad.

The course facilitator is Rowene Johnson, a mental health activist and chair of an NPO based in Johannesburg, The Bell House, supporting adults living with mental health disorders.

She is a member of the Mental Health Advisory Committee, a professional HR practitioner with the SA Board of People Practitioners, a life coach, registered with COMESA and an auxiliary social worker (SACSSP).

Johnson lives in Bushman’s River and is a committed member of the Kenton & Bushman’s community and gives of her time freely to those in need. She is also vice chair of Child

Welfare.

Dates for the course are Fridays April 26 and May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, from 10am to midday at the Bushman’s River Mouth Town Hall.

The cost is R300 per person.

The organisers invite people who would like to attend but are unable pay the fee to let them know.
