Youngsters take the bait
Saturday April 20 saw the start of the under-55s versus the over55s competition on Darian Keeton’s farm.
What a magnificent day it turned out to be, as all the elements played ball and we had a fantastic day on the beach. Even though the mist was bad at stages, the water was good although very flat and produced some quality fish.
Fish were plentiful and anglers caught 87 fish, weighing 80.53kg and eight different species.
The best catch for each species were: white musselcracker of 5.71kg, caught by Faan de Klerk U55, bronze bream 2.65kg Gerri Botha O55, black musselcracker 0.6kg
Faan de KlerkU55, white steenbras 0.7kg Dave Kemp U55, blacktail 1.08kg Rod Yendall O55, Cape stumpnose 0.66kg Dave Kemp U55 and John Tarr U55, spotted grunter 0.66kg John Tarr U55, galjoen 0.65kg Paul Knight U55.
We had the prize giving at the farm under the trees. Chair Gary du Randt asked the youngest of the over 55s and the oldest of the under 55s anglers that participated to come and hand over the trophy.
For the youngsters with 80.53kg, Paul Knight received the trophy from John Tweedie for the O55s, who had caught 22.42kg.
It’s been a long time since the margin was so great but nevertheless everyone enjoyed themselves. This made it three in a row for the U55s. Hope the O55s can pull something out the bag next year.
