Spring into action in handicap at Kempton

Spring Loaded can make it a course and distance double in the Betvictor.com Nursery Handicap at Kempton today.

Paul D'Arcy's charge has shown his best form to date on the Polytrack surface, losing his maiden tag over 1200m back in August before finishing third and winning again in his two other attempts at the Sunbury venue. Spring Loaded was perhaps a little short of room when third but made no mistake when seeing off Jaganory by just over a length last time.

He found plenty for pressure on that occasion, despite racing off an increased mark of 75, and while a further 3.5kg rise is far from ideal, Spring Loaded was well in control last time and won with a bit left in the tank. Lady Sylvia seems to have struck up a good rapport with Jenny Powell and the 2.5kg claimer is again aboard in the Betdaq 50 Per Cent Commission Refund Handicap.

Powell has ridden Joseph Tuite's mare on five occasions, with their worst effort being a fifth place at Windsor in August. Winner of a Salisbury apprentice race just a few days before, Lady Sylvia followed up for Powell when edging to a head victory at this track in September.

Hiked 3.5kg for those two swift successes, Lady Sylvia was far from disgraced in being beaten just a short head last time and can still go well, despite a further rise.

Senor George can make the most of a step back up to 1600m in the Ladbrokes Handicap at Southwell. Winner of one of his 13 starts, he looked reasonably useful in Ireland where he boasted a mark of 73, some 4.5kg higher than his current standing. Tony Coyle trained him when he struck gold at Carlisle back in June but now with Brian Ellison, he has not fared too badly in three outings, finishing thereabouts on each occasion. He remains favourably weighted for his all-weather bow.

Tidal Way is worth following as he embarks upon a new phase of his career in the Support The Ludlow On Course Bookmakers Novices' Limited Handicap Chase at Ludlow. The five-year-old hardly set the world alight in winning three of his 16 hurdles outings but his recent outing at Wetherby shows his enthusiasm endures as he just went down in a tight finish over the smaller obstacles.

Beaten under a length in third, Tidal Way has gone up 2.5kg in the ratings for that effort, although that still leaves him some way short of the 125 mark he boasted at this point last year.

Caballo De Marcus ran well for a long way on his British debut and can step up on that in the Injured Jockeys Fund Handicap Chase. Formerly trained in Ireland, he showed up well at Kempton last month before a late jumping error cost him any chance of featuring in the finish.

John's Luck can give the Neil Mulholland team a bit of a boost after a tough few days with victory in the Winning Post Real Ale Handicap Hurdle at Taunton. His Uttoxeter third on his return from a lengthy absence offered much encouragement and his capable handler has plenty to work with now that any cobwebs have been blown away. –
