Downs star still in two minds

DOLLY: SUNDOWNS NOT BUDGING OVER HIS VALUATION

- Michaelson Gumede

Striker’s agent slammed by club for being ‘uncooperative’.

The Keagan Dolly transfer saga continues, with the latest episode being a letter from City Football Group, which includes the likes of English Premier League’s Manchester City and New York City in the United States in their stable.

Dolly has been the subject of a protracted move to Europe, with French side Montpellier and Greece outfit Olympiakos reportedly being the front-runners to lure the 23-year-old from the Chloorkop-based side.

The letter, addressed directly to club president Patrice Motsepe, dated August 25, 2016, revealed that City Football Group have been monitoring the striker’s performances, and have since taken a stance that Dolly would be well suited to a number of teams within their stable.

“If it is acceptable to both yourself and the player, we would like to invite you both to the City Football Academy at the earliest opportunity to discuss this matter further and meet key personnel within the group,” read part of the letter.

However, Downs still stand firm by their buy-out clause believed to be in the region of R21 million, which was upheld by the Premier Soccer League’s (PSL) dispute resolution chamber (DRC).

“Mamelodi Sundowns remains committed, as stated by its president Patrice Motsepe, to immediately release Keagan Dolly to any club which complies with the buy-out clause which was upheld by the PSL DRC,” read an official statement from the club.

Bafana Ba Style went on to express their disappointment at Dolly’s agent Paul Mitchell. “We are disappointed and concerned by the continuous misrepresentation spread by Keagan Dolly’s agent, which makes any co-operation difficult.

“Mamelodi Sundowns do not want to be seen as a club that can be blackmailed into selling players because of misrepresentations and pressure in the media.”

Phakaaathi reached out to Mitchell in an attempt to get a response, but he has refrained from engaging with the media in relation to the Dolly debacle.

“I am in a meeting, if it is about Keagan Dolly, we are not doing any media at the moment,” Mitchell told the paper.
