Gordinho could leave for free

ON THE RADAR: AALBORG INTERESTED IN THE SERVICES OF IN-FORM KAIZER CHIEFS DEFENDER

If Danish club wait until June Chiefs could miss out on fee.

Kaizer Chiefs could lose one of their prized players for free if Lorenzo Gordinho is successful in his trial at Danish club Aalborg BK, where he has reportedly impressed.

Gordinho played the full match in Aalborg’s 2-0 friendly defeat against German team, TSG Hoffenheim at the weekend.

Gordinho is in the last six months of his contract at Amakhosi and is legally allowed to negotiate with any team and sign a pre-contract. Phakaaathi understands that he had not signed any extension and could not establish whether Amakhosi had an extension clause in the initial contract.

Gordinho’s agent, Mike Makaab was quoted by Goal.com as saying Amakhosi stand to make a handsome profit if the defender makes the grade at Aalborg, but that could only happen if the Danish giants want him now. If they decide to wait for June, they will land the 22-year-old for free.

Makaab said Chiefs were alerted of Gordinho’s trial well in advance. “Chiefs had every right to say no, because he is still their player, but they didn’t. Instead, they allowed him to go and try his luck. Our relationship with Chiefs management is very good, they understand everything that’s going on because they are the first to know when things like this happen,” Makaab said.

Gordinho has been with Amakhosi for three seasons and has become a critical player in Steve Komphela’s team. He has formed a formidable partnership with Erick Mathoho at the heart of Amakhosi’s defence and has been a beacon of hope for most of this season, scoring three goals.

Amakhosi’s football manager, Bobby Motaung was also quoted last week as saying they would not stand in Gordinho’s way should an offer for his services be made.

“We are happy for Gordinho and the chance he got. We gave him the permission to go there and we will wait to hear what Aalborg say,” Motaung said.

Chiefs are mum on the future of the players who are on trial at the Naturena-based team.
