Heroin and cocaine bust: two in court

Two suspects arrested for alleged possession of crack cocaine and heroin have appeared in a Durban court, the Hawks in KwaZulu-Natal said yesterday.

Indresh Pather, 45, and Abu Talib Essop, 42, were arrested this week in Overport and Bonela respective­ly after the Hawks received tip-offs.

Both suspects appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Hawks KwaZulu-Natal spokespers­on Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo said the Hawks launched an investigat­ive operation on Monday to arrest Pather.

“An operation involving members of the metro police was launched at Bondsvick Centre in Overport where Pather was arrested for dealing in drugs.

“He was found in possession of 28 pieces of crack cocaine and 12 small packets of cocaine powder with a street value of approximat­ely R19 800.

“The operation continued on Tuesday and officers swooped in on houses in Bonela and a search warrant was executed.

“During the search of the house, 3 900 heroin tablets were found.

“Talib Essop was immediatel­y arrested.

“The street value of the seized tablets is approximat­ely R95 500,” he said.

Panther remains in custody and his case was postponed to February 13. – ANA
