Revise selection process for state president

-

No stone should be left unturned to find the right person, writes TG Smith from Benoni.

Everyone will agree that choosing the right president will benefit every citizen in a country. The ANC’s choice of Jacob Zuma was disastrous and has crippled this country in all spheres, from education to economic growth.

He is the wrong person for this position. He changed South Africa from a democratic state to an autocratic state.

Allowing the ruling party to choose the state president is not the way to go about choosing the leader of a country.

A shortlist of 20 prospective candidates should be drafted after nominations are received from all political parties.

Their CVs must be made public to be studied by the citizens of that country.

A referendum should be held for the citizens to choose their preferred candidates.

Eventually a short list of five candidates should be selected.

Hereafter, these five should be subjected to strenuous psychometric tests in order to ascertain their suitability for the post.

A personality profile will bring about knowledge of the candidate’s self interests, honesty, ability to handle stress, sense of fairness and other personality traits which would make him/her suitable/unsuitable for the position.

This person should not be older than 60. Older people may not have the energy for this demanding post.

All this must be done at least a year before the post is filled.

No stone should be left unturned to find the right person for the most important position in a country.
