Molangoane a tiny ton of TNT

SETTLED: CHIEFS’ POCKET DYNAMO HAS SLOTTED IN WELL

- Sibongiseni Gumbi

He ironically made his debut against his former employers.

As cliched as it might sound, Kaizer Chiefs winger Joseph Molangoane is proof that dynamite indeed comes in small packages. Molangoane’s small frame is quite deceptive as many a defender in the Absa Premiership can attest to him giving them a hard time over the years with his ball control and quick moves.

Eventually getting to play for Amakhosi after a drawn-out fight the club had with his former employers Chippa United, who claimed he was still their player, Molangoane took to his role at the Naturena-based side like a duck to water.

The 28-year-old has become a regular since making his debut as a second-half substitute on December 3 – and that is coincidentally the last time Amakhosi lost a Premiership match.

Despite his admirable contributions to the team’s four wins and one draw since he joined, Molangoane feels he still needs to improve.

“It’s been so, so,” he said of his time as a Glamour Boy. “But I can do better. It’s nice when you get into a team and make a difference.

“If I can score more goals … that is one thing I want to improve on,” he added.

Molangoane made his debut against the Chilli Boys and did fairly well. He admitted to over-exerting himself.

“I put myself under pressure because it was my first game for a while and I wanted to give the fans something. It didn’t work out. Even the coach said I must take things easy and it would come with time,” he said.

Molangoane said he was never worried when Chippa claimed he was still contracted to them as he knew how it was going to end.

“I knew it was going to come to an end because I didn’t sign a contract with them. It took so much for me to survive. It wasn’t easy. I was here (at Chiefs) working because I had signed a contract with them and not Chippa,” he said.

Molangoane is hoping to make another meaningful contribution when Amakhosi host Highlands Park in Durban tomorrow.
