SUPADRIFT: SERIES SET TO RUN OVER SIX MONTHS FROM APRIL TO SEPTEMBER

-

‘We’ll visit circuits where speeds of up to 140km/h is the norm for drifting cars.’

Drifting will again have an official South African title chase this year, running under the SupaDrift banner. The sport, one of the quickest local growing forms of the adrenalin game, will have a six-event national championship, set to run over six months.

To ensure good weather, the series will be contested between the months of April and September.

Furthermore, it will embrace a wide range of venues ranging from expanded oval tracks, via established race circuits to the country’s only dedicated Drifting arena.

Run by XS Promotions, the commercial rights holders of the national championship franchise, the SupaDrift Series is the only Drifting championship in the country endorsed by Motorsport South Africa.

This is the fourth year that a national champion will be crowned, with 2016 title holder Shain Gutzeit set to defend his property in a Dezzi Nissan Skyline.

“When properly managed, SupaDrifting

provides a brilliant spectacle, and we’ll visit circuits where speeds of up to 140km/h is the norm for cars travelling sideways,” co-owner of XS Promotions Mikey Skelton said.

“That apart, we’ll take the

spectacle to a wider audience, especially at the Carnival City casino complex, which was specifically designed and built for drifting displays.”

He said the SupaDrift events were family entertainment, with all of the rounds expected to attract large crowds.
