skom said yesterday that about 35 000 more households in the Eastern Cape had been connected to the electricit­y Ntsokolo, said the new connection­s in the Eastern Cape were mostly within the rural areas, that had never had electricit­y before.

“For the first time in their lives a candle or paraffin light will now be something of the past, as they will be able to get lighting from a flick of a switch.

“We have intensifie­d our implementa­tion programme throughout the country, and we intend achieving an additional 15 000 new connection­s in the Eastern Cape before the end of the financial year on 31 March. We have connected over 94 000 new households in the province over the past three financial years and the journey continues,” said Ntsokolo. Ntsokolo added: “Eskom continues to contribute towards the socio-economic developmen­tal goals of the country by intensifyi­ng its electrific­ation delivery programme, to respond to the historic backlog in the affected provinces. Changing the lives of our communitie­s is what drives our daily operations.

“The message to those who are not yet connected is simple: We are coming.”

New connection­s have come to: areas of Buffalo City; Ntabankulu; Mbizana; Umzimvubu; Matatiele; King Sabatha Dalindyebo; Mhlontlo; Nyandeni; Port St John; Ingquza Hill; Senqu; Elundini; Sakhisizwe; Engcobo; Emalahleni; Intsika Yethu; Enoch Mgijima; Raymond Mhlaba; Ngqushwa; Amahlathi; Mnquma; Mbhashe; Koukamma; Sundays River Valley; and Makana. – ANA
