One suicide vest found among arms in Randburg

Police have recovered a small arsenal in a storage site on Bram Fischer Drive in Randburg, Johannesburg.
They also uncovered a suicide vest, seven rifles, 15 pistols, 11 revolvers and four hand grenades in a Dover Street storage site on Monday.
Among the items were a suicide vest. Police could not confirm if the vest was intended to be used in a terror attack.
Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said: “The stash has been taken by our forensics team to Pretoria for documentation and to be examined.”
“We are in the process of interviewing the old owner of the building as well as people who live in the vicinity.”
The firearms recovered included one R-5 rifle, seven AK47s, 12 revolvers, an Uzi and 31 rifle magazines, among others. At least 31 bombs, 10kg plastic explosives, 60 mortar rockets, six hand grenades, three detonators and live rounds were also confiscated.
“We were first alerted to the building by construction workers who noticed a suspicious bag.”
