Parastatals the milking cow of our democracy

-

The uneducated thrive careerwise at parastatals, writes Tumi Moilwa

Iworked for a parastatal for 12 years. If parastatals could be investigated, I bet my life that the highest cost goes toward salaries. Collins Letsoalo gives himself a 350% increase ... typical parastatal mentality. They are paid exorbitant salaries yet management adds little or no value to the company.

Parastatals have become the milking cow of our new democra- cy. Talk about organised crime.

For each useless post that is created there is a lost opportunity to create three more jobs for ordinary South Africans. If it took one man to run a department effectively and efficiently, why appoint a thousand men to run the same department? Tragedy of the new South Africa.

It therefore doesn’t come as a shock that Transnet is retrenching to curb costs. Unless the culture changes in these parastatals, they will eventually shut down because they are terribly mismanaged.

I have also found that those who have qualifications are often overlooked. If you are uneducated and want to thrive career-wise, go work for a parastatal.

In case people wonder why this economy is stagnant and doesn’t grow, go visit any parastatal. They are all the same. There are a few powerful folk who hire and fire as they please.

My boss used to stand on the table and tell a host of us just how useless we are while he paraded his bootlickers as the best as he continued to pull them up the organisational structure as clueless as they were.
