Rohan’s just so motivated

“You can’t just expect to run into a brick wall every time.”

This was the reaction this week from the Lions sensational game-breaking centre Rohan Janse van Rensburg (above) of his ability to break tackles with defenders bouncing off his muscular thighs.

“You have to choose, you can’t run into a brick wall every time,” said Janse van Rensburg, 22, who has scored five tries this year in four matches, having missed the Argentina trip.

“You have to trust your mindset and decide whether you want to carry it hard or not.”

With the Lions more intent on exploiting space, it’s often the duty of the 109kg Springbok centre, who has scored a staggering 15 tries in just 21 Super Rugby matches, to straighten the line or run great supporting lines.

“It’s basically an attitude thing and in Super Rugby it’s more difficult to break a line or go through tackles as every side is good,” he said.

Today he and Harold Vorster are up against the Sharks’ Andre Esterhuizen and Lukhanyo Am and Janse van Rensburg said they have been in good form.

“Very good centres, very good pairing as well and I have a lot of respect for them. But we are also looking at what we want to accomplish,” he said.

Van Rensburg said the way the Lions fans took him to their hearts in the last few weeks have been very humbling.

“But it also provides me with more motivation, it makes you want to do more than what you usually put out there.

“It is great to hear that there might be 35 000-plus people and it’s been amazing how the people have stood behind us.”

Last week was fairly unfamiliar territory for him when he was seen dropping five passes against the Kings.

“Last week was actually funny for me because I couldn’t understand what was happening,” he said.

“But then you can’t expect to have the perfect game every weekend, it’s rugby and we’ve all been there.”
