Baroka ‘won’t be a pushover’

- Michaelson Gumede

SuperSport United skipper Dean Furman (above) expects a tricky Absa Premiership match against beleaguered Baroka FC this afternoon, as the Polokwane side are staring relegation in the face.

Matsatsantsa are playing in their home-away-from-home at the Mbombela Stadium, where Furman anticipates a gruelling battle for three points.

“It is not going to be easy at all, we know they are dangerous, they are a strong side that can cause problems for us, and in that, we are not guaranteed any points.

“This season we have dropped a large number of points because of the draws we had against these smaller teams, so we have to be focused in trying to pick up the three points. If we take the approach that it will be an easy game, we will find ourselves in big trouble,” Furman said.

United do boast a 19-game unbeaten run in the league, but too many of those matches (10) have ended in draws, and Matsatsantsa really need to increase their winning ratio as the title race intensifies.

“It is the business end of the season now and with five teams fighting for the top spot, draws are no good. So we have to start picking up those wins, we have to collect maximum points and right now we would be disappointed with a draw. We are definitely gunning for those three points,” added the Bafana Bafana star.

He continued: “One thing that the coach (Stuart Baxter) has managed this season is the ability to ensure everyone knows their job.”
