EXTENDED HOURS: R7 MILLION SPENT AT SIX FACILITIES IN THE CITY

-

It will benefit those who can’t get time off from work.

About R7 million has been spent by the City of Johannesburg to extend operating hours at six clinics in various areas, mayor Herman Mashaba said yesterday at the Freedom Park Clinic in Soweto.

“It is a great honour and pleasure for me to launch the extended operating hours for the Freedom Park Clinic, an undertaking I believe is bound to make a significant improvement in the provision of quality health services for this community,” said Mashaba.

Until Monday, operating hours at the Freedom Park Clinic were from 7.30am to 4pm during the week. However, the closing time has been extended to 10pm. The clinic will also open from 7.30am to 1.30pm on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Mashaba said 16 extra staff members had been brought into the clinic, including a social worker and a pharmacist, to ensure that the extended hours run smoothly.

Mashaba said the pilot project for extended operating hours was initially launched at the Princess Clinic in October 2015.

Mashaba said the extended operating hours will be introduced soon at four other health facilities – Hikensile Clinic, Randburg Clinic, Zandspruit Clinic and Albert Street clinic to accommodate those who can’t visit during working hours. – ANA
