Big guns set for repeat of 2013 Cup final

- Tshepo Ntsoelengoe

Last night’s Nedbank Cup lasteight draw produced a mouthwatering clash between holders SuperSport United and 2013 champions Kaizer Chiefs.

The two teams previously met in the final of the competition in 2013 when Chiefs walked away as winners.

Meeting in this round, SuperSport United defender Clayton Daniels said it wasn’t a surprise and that they are looking forward to defending their trophy.

“It just had to come down to the teams meeting in this round. It’s the quarterfinals, meaning if we win we can advance to the final. And we are the champions so we know what it takes to play these type of games,” said Daniels.

“I am looking forward to a very exciting game. We all know that Chiefs have a very large crowd behind them, so it will be a good one.”

With Matsatsantsa having quite a number of Amakhosi players as well a their former Chiefs coach in their camp, Daniels believes it makes things easier for them.

“At the end of day we have to play each other and we have to bring our A-game to win the match.”

Meanwhile, Chiefs coach Steve Komphela brushed talks of the tie being labelled as Chiefs A v Chiefs B aside.

“I don’t think that Stuart Baxter will take kindly to having his team mentioned as Chiefs B,” Komphela added. “But the reality is that most of the players at SuperSport have been with us and they know how to operate, which will make things more interesting.”

Dates and venues will be announced in due course.
