Dortmund attacked

ITALIANS: UNBEATEN AT HOME FOR FOUR YEARS

-

Dortmund to face Monaco today after attack on bus.

Paulo Dybala upstaged his fellow Argentine Lionel Messi by scoring two exquisitely taken goals to set Juventus on the way to an emphatic 3-0 win over an underwhelming Barcelona in the Champions League last night.

The Spanish side, who overcame a 4-0 first-leg deficit in the previous round to beat Paris St Germain, will have to pull a similar trick out of the hat after being comprehensively outplayed in the quarter-final first leg.

Dybala fired Juve ahead in the seventh minute and added the second goal before the half hour while defender Giorgio Chiellini headed in the third early in the second half in another rousing Juventus performance.

It could have been worse for Barca as Gonzalo Higuain, usually Juve’s most dangerous marksman, missed two chances that he would usually have snapped up.

Barca had 65% of the possession but were strangely ponderous in midfield and leaky at the back, where they could not cope with the pace and aggression of Mario Mandzukic or Juan Cuadrado on the flanks.

The match pitted Chiellini against Barcelona forward Luis Suarez for the first time since the infamous incident at the 2014 World Cup when the Uruguayan bit the Italian defender.

Juve are unbeaten at home in a European tie for four years now.

German football reacted with shock and solidarity after the Borussia Dortmund team bus was attacked forcing their Champions League match against Monaco to be called off last night.

Dortmund’s bus was en route to the stadium for the quarter-final first-leg, when it was hit by three explosions.

The blasts shattered the vehicle’s windows and left defender Marc Bartra with a hand injury. Police have not said who was behind the attack.

Carlo Ancelotti, head coach of Dortmund’s Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich, offered the Bundesliga leaders’ best wishes.

“Our whole support for @ BVB and we wish @MarcBartra a speedy recovery,” tweeted the Italian.

Dortmund’s arch rivals Schalke also offered well wishes. – Reuters, AFP
