Some True Words spoken about Dutch Philip

-

The fields might be small at Kenilworth on Saturday but there are some decent runners in action, especially among the juveniles.

Race 2 is particularly interesting as it contains Dutch Philip, the colt who was all the rage for the Listed Summer Juvenile Stakes over 1000m at Kenilworth on Sun Met Day. The money poured on to the son of What A Winter and he went off at 11-10. However, much to the dismay of his supporters, the Candice Bass-Robinson-trained runner was way back at the 400m mark. Although he took off like an express train in the latter stages it is very difficult to make up that sort of ground over 1000m and he could only finish third, 1.50 lengths behind Joey Ramsden’s charge, Call To Account.

What I can tell the racing public is that after the race I heard retired trainer Mike Bass tell owner Bernard Kantor that Call To Account has to be a decent horse because they rate Dutch Philip very highly.

So hopefully Dutch Philip can give punters a good fillip when he takes on some other two-year-olds in this Juvenile Plate, again over 1000m. He will be very hard to beat as long as Aldo Domeyer, who gets the ride for the first time, does not have him too far out of his ground.

The dangers look to be Zodiac Jack and Made In Hollywood.

Another juvenile to catch the eye on debut was True Words. This grey son of Byword raced over 1200m on debut and ran on nicely to finish a 2.25-length second behind Why Wouldn’T Yew.

Ramsden’s charge takes on older horses in Race 3, a maiden plate but he will definitely enjoy the additional 200m and from No 4 draw is expected to make the necessary improvement. Donovan Dillon takes the ride.
