Inspired Vorster back with a bang

Centre showed his class with fine display at Newlands.

Lions centre Harold Vorster only needed half a chance to prove he is regaining the form which made him a star two seasons ago. Vorster earned the Man-of-theMatch award against the Stormers at Newlands last weekend after he replaced Rohan Janse van Rensburg early in the Super Rugby match after the former picked up a serious knee injury.

In a crucial setback, Janse van Rensburg faces two months on the sidelines, while flanker Jaco Kriel’s disciplinary hearing was eventually set for today.

“I sincerely hope that Rohan will recover quickly, but we had fantastic support at Newlands,” said Vorster, who scored the second of the Lions’ four tries.

Ironically, after a great season in 2015, Vorster also picked up a serious knee injury which saw him miss last year ... and now a similar scenario could await Janse van Rensburg.

Vorster will, therefore, regain his starting place today when coach Johan Ackermann names the side to face the Jaguares at Ellis Park on Friday.

“The Stormers are a very good side and we prepared very well for them, so we were very grateful for the win against a quality side. It was a great day for us,” said Vorster.

“The bye was important for us and we rested out quite well before the trip to Cape Town, but we always knew we were going to be in for a tough challenge.”

Stormers captain Siya Kolisi was full of praise for the Lions after the loss and ahead of facing the Crusaders in the first match of their away leg this weekend.

“It was disappointing losing at Newlands but we were outplayed on the day by the Lions and they appeared to want it more,” said Kolisi.

The Stormers captain said they should have adapted better and changed more things during the game when they saw it wasn’t working.

“We kept on making mistakes and they kept capitalising and didn’t give us anything to play with. They were good in set-piece and general play.”
