We didn’t deserve anything, says coach

Orlando Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret (left) was left disappointed with his players following their 1-1 draw with Baroka FC at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night.

It took Issa Sarr’s 94th-minute header to earn the Buccaneers a point after trailing Bakgaga 1-0 courtesy of Victor Letsoalo’s strike in the 78th minute.

The visitors were a better side on the night creating numerous scoring opportunities, with midfielder Mxolisi Kunene and Jose Garcia coming very close to scoring in the first half.

With such a brave performance from a team that is fighting relegation, Jonevret went on to admit that his team were lucky to come away with a point after a lifeless performance.

“They (Baroka) deserved to win – they were the better team. It was a terrible performance today. Baroka could have scored more than one. So I am very disappointed,” said the Swede.

Having came into this game with their morale high after booking their spot in the semifinals of the Nedbank Cup, there were lots of expectations from Bucs players given the team is fighting for a top eight finish.

And now, with six games to go, Jonevret said the game was a chance for the club to pick up maximum points, but now he hopes his players will be better prepared for their next league match against Chippa United at the same venue tomorrow.

The result sees Pirates remain in ninth place with 28 points, while Baroka remain at the bottom with 22 points.
