Jonevret frustrated by his men

Orlando Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret was once again left disappointed by his men, who surrendered a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 against Golden Arrows in their final Absa Premiership match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium last weekend.

The loss saw the Buccaneers end the season in 11th spot with 33 points, finishing outside the topeight for the first time in the PSL era, while Arrows secured their top eight spot with the win.

Having beaten Arrows a fortnight ago in the semifinals of the Nedbank Cup, the Pirates coach says he was looking forward to a second successive win against the KwaZulu-Natal side, but his players didn’t play according to instructions and also defended poorly.

“I’m very disappointed, it was much tougher on the field than you could see on TV. We managed to play okay even though we gave away the ball too much. We decided we should play simple football and let them struggle a bit, push up and try to press forward, but we did exactly the opposite,” the Pirates coach said.

“Arrows had a scoring problem, but we gave them the goals. I’m very disappointed, even if we didn’t make the top eight. Maybe we lost that position a long time ago. But I wanted to win the last game of the season, for the supporters and for ourselves.”

Meanwhile, having enjoyed quite a bright start this campaign, Pirates striker Tendai Ndoro (below) who scored 11 goals in the first round of the league campaign, lost his touch as he only managed to score one goal in the second half of the season.

When asked about his contribution to the Buccaneers, the Zimbabwean international said: “This is football, anything can happen.”
