Bok coach Coetzee spoilt for choice

- Rudolph Jacobs

Springbok coach Allister Coetzee admitted yesterday he has a few crucial selection posers ahead of the third French Test at Ellis Park this weekend.

With flank Oupa Mohoje ruled out with concussion, Jean-Luc du Preez and Jaco Kriel (right) will be in the selection mix, while centre Jesse Kriel has also recovered from his concussion from the first Test.

“I would like to keep continuity in the team and build capacity. There might be one or two changes, but there won’t be wholesome changes,” said Coetzee.

Team doctor Konrad von Hagen confirmed the medical situation regarding Mohoje and Kriel.

“Oupa is still having symptoms and won’t train at all this week,” he said.

“But the good news Jesse is in the final phase of his return to play protocol.”

Coetzee said he might have a midfield poser between retaining Lionel Mapoe or recalling Kriel.

“If I reflect back to the first Test how well Jesse played, while Lionel got a chance to play last weekend and also performed,” said Coetzee.

“It is a headache for me but I hope I make the right decision.”

Coetzee said Mohoje is a massive loss as they were happy with his game.

“With the performance of JeanLuc, there’s an opportunity for him to build the capacity in the team.

“Jaco might find himself in the starting 23 this weekend. I think he was a week early with his return to play-protocol (after a knee injury) and he is training with confidence,” he said.

Coetzee said despite winning the series, they still have areas where they would like to improve and maintained there’s no pressure on him to win the series 3-0.
