Day of glitz and glamour at July
DRESSED TO KILL: WHO’S WHO STEPPED OUT IN STYLE
It was no horsing around for fashion this year at the Greyville Racecourse.
Feathers and bows, ribbons and ties – this was the rage at this year’s Durban July spectacle. Fashion was the name of the game – ladies dressed to kill and the men looking ultra-dashing. And all the while, fans were vying for selfies with their favourite celebrities.
This year’s Vodacom Durban July was one for the record books. Not only were the celebrities on their best behaviour, but their outfits were gob-smacking.
It was a show in which the who’s who were leading one another up the garden path, while others did their utmost to put their best foot forward to stay ahead of the pack.
Etv and Touch HD radio host DJ Capital looked really dapper in his red-and-black suit.
Another deserving mention must go to Metro FM hip-hop star Luthando LootLove Shosha, who went against her norm and dazzled most with her Ryan Keys, blush-pink number and proved that even tomboys can effortlessly carry off a pair of heels and a designer dress.
The king of all trending, Somizi Mhlongo, glided through the crowd in a show-stopping jumpsuit by Durban-based designer Zama Zarth, flanked with an entourage of bouncers and excited fans.

Isn’t she lovely? I’m her handbag for the day
as an engaged couple, were SABC1 Real Goboza presenter Phat Joe and his fianceé, Palesa Mogan. She looked stunning in her Quiteria and George dress and retired ladies man Joe actually admitted to being her handbag for the day.
And, while most were busy chasing after photographers trying to get the winning image for their Instagram followers, award-winning hip-hop artist AKA had the main stage alight with hit after hit from his runaway catalogue of music.
If anything, the only missing thing from this year’s Durban July was a killer Gert-Johan dress worn by Bonang Matheba.
Meanwhile, Marinaresco, second in last year’s main race, went one step better at Greyville Racecourse on Saturday afternoon to win this year’s Durban July.
The horse, ridden by Bernard Fayd’Herbe, is trained by Candice Bass-Robinson.
