ESCAPE: A FINE SPOT THAT’S CLOSE TO HOME

- Kgosi Modisane

The Midrand hotel has been revamped to fit the new vision of the group.

We have all had that one day which left us feeling the need to pack our bags and escape life, but what keeps us from acting this out is always where to run to, especially if you have an early presentation at the office or worse, kids to drop off at school.

You are most likely going to lean towards finding a place which is far enough away yet still close to home.

Town Lodge hotels, the little sister of hotel brand City Lodges, offer a wide selection of places catering for that workaholic who just needs some “quiet time”.

In keeping with the traditions of a town, the hotel in Midrand is on the outskirts of Johannesburg, just five kilometres away from the popular Mall of Africa.

This two star hotel would be a fitting place to lay one’s head for the night. Its friendly hotel staff kept me well entertained as they listened to my complaints about life and the economy.

With only three floors, the hotel had wrapped me together with travellers who use the destination as a pit stop for a night or two.

Inside my room was a cosy double bed and a pile of towels folded into a duck (I kid you not).

Offering both single and double rooms, this neighbourhood had its own characters which I would soon play witness too.

Having just been revamped, to fit the new vision of the the hotel group, the Midrand establishment is both elegant and trendy and assures the guest a peaceful and tranquil night’s stay.

Outside on the terrace is a clear blue pool which even on a rainy winter’s night looked alluring and totally worth a flu shot from my doctor.

The hotel is fully Wi-Fi enabled and for a techno junkie like me, who documents every moment on social media, having uncapped Wi-Fi is among the top requirements for a pleasurable stay.

Another interesting factor was how the hotel uses a customised app to order take outs as its sole aim is to provide bed and breakfast to its guests.

Having spent a pleasant night at the Midrand establishment, waking up with an extra bounce in my step was fully understandable.
