Extreme racing at Phakisa

Two races for G&H Transport Extreme Supercars are heading up the show.
The Extreme Festival motorsport show will be on at the Free State Phakisa Raceway this Saturday, with six categories, on four and two wheels, on the menu. Heading up the show will be two races for G&H Transport Extreme Supercars, which have attracted a superb collection of very fast, exotic machinery.
The man to beat should be Franco Scribante in his formidable 450 kW Porsche 977 Turbo, which should thrive at Phakisa Raceway’s high altitude.
Challenging him will be people like Gianni Giannoccaro (G&H Transport Lamborghini Galardo), Johan Engelbrecht (Jogajoga Porsche 977 Turbo), Jonathan du Toit (TAR Ferrari 430), Craig Jarvis (Panacea Ferrari 458 GT3), Paul Hill (Kalex BMW 335 Turbo), Greg Parton (Drizit Lamborghini Huracan), Franco di Matteo (Deltec Batteries Alfa GT) and Ricky Giannoccaro (G&H Transport BMW M3 GTR).
Matching the Supercars in terms of lap times should be the front-running Bridgestone Thunderbike competitors.
Phakisa was originally designed as a two-wheeler circuit, and bike racers love the venue. Victory favourites should include Gavin Upton (Motion Perfection Yamaha R1), Shaun Vermaak (Fourways Motorcycles Kawasaki ZX10R), Chris du Plessis (Yamaha R1), Daryn Upton (Turn-Skill Kawasaki ZX10R), Shane Levy (Vape Gurus Yamaha R1), Rob Morf (Morphine Kawasaki ZX6R) and Chris du Plessis (Yamaha R1).
Bringing 36 competitors to the party will be the Volkswagen Challenge brigade, with top contenders drivers like Wayne Masters (Performance Masters Polo), Iain Pepper (Husqvarna Polo), Gavin Ross (Norbrake Polo), Stiaan Kriel (Spanjaard Polo), Devon Piazza-Musso (Reef Supplies Polo), Shaun Neill (Delmon Mining Polo), Waldie Meintjes (Lee Thompson Polo), André de Lange (Roofsure Polo).
Ultra-close slipstreaming battles should be the order of the day in the two Hankook Formula Vee
races.
Probable winners must include Jaco Schriks (Cubed Coatings Rhema), Gert van den Berg (BP Nantes Rhema), Peter Hills (Lube Fushion Rhema), Lushen Ramchander (Miami Products Formula Vee), Brandon Hills (Lube Fushion Rhema) and Ernie Vermaak (DOE Parts Vee).
The races for Bridgestone Challenge motorcycles should see riders like Rupert Fourie (Silverton Bolt Honda Fireblade), Deon de Beer (No Rules BMW 1000 RR), Werner Strohm (Parrot Interactive Kawasaki), Coen Erasmus (E. Engineering Suzuki), Joe Herbig (MV Agusta) and Naasief Wadvalla (ZXR Racing Kawasaki) in the front.
Ending the day’s activities will be the Phakisa 200 – a 200km event for autObarn Superhatch and 111 Sports and Saloon Cars.
The race has attracted a full grid of 55 cars. Topping the huge entry list will be people like Brett Garland/ Jeffrey Kruger (autObarn Honda Civic), Hilton van Nieuwenhuizen/ Robert Grieve (ASAP Peugeot 206), Andy Gossman/ George Bezuidenhout (VW Golf), Keagan Pottas (Advanced Pest Management Alfa GTV), Stiaan Kriel/ Robyn Kruger (Spanjaard VW Polo), Karel Stoltz/ Johan Smith (Pretoria North Toyota RunX). Other entrants include Johan Hattingh (Nissan 350Z), Jonathan/Mark du Toit (Honda Civic), Ishmael Baloyi/ Chad ten Doeschate (TAR Honda Civic), Wouter Roos (Strata Drilling VW Polo) and Melanie Spurr (VW Motorsport/Rowlin/Wealth Avenue VW Polo).
