BOOYSEN: CONFIDENCE VERY HIGH AMONG THE PLAYERS

Baxter’s boys enjoy a 2-0 advantage from the first leg.

With Bafana Bafana potentially having one foot in the final round of the Chan qualifiers, Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana defender Mario Booysen says everyone in the squad is determined to go through to the next phase of the competition ahead of their second-leg meeting with Botswana at Moruleng Stadium this afternoon.

Booysen has been handed the captain’s armband for the qualifiers and led the team to a 2-0 victory over the Zebras at Francistown Stadium last week.

“The way the boys applied themselves in Botswana, the attitude was right. Now coming to this game again it’s all about the attitude, we really want to do well and go through to the next round.

“The confidence is very high among the players in camp, we must just go out there and stick to our game plan again. Most of the boys are looking forward to the game and we want to see if we can’t proceed to the next round and even go on to qualify for the tournament,” said Booysen.

The senior national men’s team have been busy in the last two months, with head coach Stuart Baxter making a number of changes in the squad from the team that played at the Cosafa Cup.

Baxter says switching to Chan was a little challenging for him. However, he was impressed with the way the players responded to his tactics despite having a few training sessions with the squad prior to the Botswana game.

“We went to Botswana on the back of a few training sessions and I was really pleased with the players, they applied themselves well,” he said.
