SA racers’ gruelling test

-

Three South African drivers will tackle this weekend’s Spa 24 Hours, the world’s biggest GT3 endurance event.

Kelvin van der Linde, who took the overall victory in last month’s Nurburgring 24Hour race, will be in an Audi R8, Jordan Pepper will drive a works-assisted Bentley Continental, and David Perel will be in a Kessel Ferrari.

The race is a tough contest, with 65 Supercars driven by some 200 of the world’s best speed merchants, including former Formula 1 and German Touring Car stars.

Perel currently leads the 2017 Blancpain AM Championship in the Ferrari, thanks to a category win last month in France.

He hopes this event will bring similar results. “The championship is incredibly important to me. I will focus on bringing home as many points as possible and hopefully that leads to a podium finish,” he said. “I am not going to get ahead of myself. Just finishing this race is hard enough.”

The Spa 24 Hours will take place on Saturday and Sunday starting at 4.30pm. You can follow the event live via streaming on youtube.com/gtworld.
