Historic Tour lineup

ROUND FOUR: VAN VUUREN AND VERWEY OUT TO CONSOLIDAT­ES LEADS

Smith, Lindenberg, Ribeiro, Ellison and Lobb will be in fight for overall victory.

Round four of this year’s Historic Tour will take place at the Dezzi Raceway near Port Shepstone this Saturday, with seven four-wheeler categories taking to the tarmac.

Heading up proceeding­s should be two races for Marlboro Crane Hire Pre-1980 Historic Saloon Cars.

Currently tied on points at the head of the year’s title chase will be Deon Van Vuuren (Ford Escort Mk1) and Marco Verwey (1972 Datsun De Lux).

Van Vuuren should face a tough challenge from the likes of Meredith Willis (1979 Ford Escort) and Marius Verwey (1974 Datsun GX Coupe) in Class E.

Verwey will find his opposition in Class G from Harry Lombard (VW Beetle) and John Bronner (Alfa Romeo GT Junior).

Fighting for overall victories on the day should be Johan Smith (1976 Mazda Carella RS), Paige Lindenberg (1968 Ford Fairlane), Miguel Ribeiro (1979 Alfa Romeo GTA), Colin Ellison (1966 Alfa Giulia Sprint) and Neil Lobb (1976 Fiat 131).

The races for Pre-1990 Sports and GT Cars should see victory fights between entrants like Peter Jenkins (Porsche 911 RSR), George Avvakoumid­es (Porsche 911 RSR), Keagan Pottas (Alfa Romeo GTV), Fritz Kleynhans (Porsche 911) and Mark Saunders (Porsche 924).

Dean Venter (Turnfab Swift) should be the man to beat in the Investchem Formula Ford Kent races, challenged by people like David Jermy (Lime Chilli Van Diemen), Jeff Gable, Jacquet Van Diemen), Alex Vos (Ecurie Zoo Swift) and James Reeves (Ray 83).

The Sabat Lotus Challenge will field 25 cars, led by people like Neil de Later (Birkin 7 Toyota Turbo), Jeffrey Kruger (Birkin 7 Toyota), Jeff Gable (Birkin7 Toyota), David Jermy (Taylon 7 Toyota) and Thomas Falkiner (Taylon 7 Toyota).

The Metal Used Spares Alfa Trofeo Challenge races should see people like Keagan Pottas (Alfa Romeo GTV), Mario Rossi (Alfa Romeo GTV6), Colin Ellison (Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint), Miguel Ribeiro (Alfa Romeo GTA) and Jarvis (Alfa Romeo GT Junior) fighting at the front end.

Racing with the Historic cars will be the Inex Legends. with front runners expected to be Jordan Larson (N&S Legend) Altan Bouw (Bat Supplies Legend), Anro Stadler (Legend), Willie Erasmus (Big Boss Auto Legend), Richard Upton (RU Legend) and Charl Roux (Rubro Building Legend).

The SKF Pre-66 Legend Production Cars will see victory challenger­s like Alan Poulter (Volvo 122S), Mike O’Sullivan (BMW 2000 Tisa). Roger Houston (Alfa Giulia Super), Ishmael Baloyi (Alfa Dart) and Cindy Evans-Finney (Renault R8) in action.

Closing the day will be a Hamptons Historic Endurance Series race.

It is a tough one to call butthe outright winner could be Peter Jenkins (Porsche 911 RSR), Fritz Kleynhans (Porsche 911), Jan Jacobs (1965 Alfa Romeo GT Junior), Hubi von Moltke (1976 Mercedes-Benz 280CE) and Djurk Venter (1968 Ford Escort). – Historic Correspond­ent
